Different Types Of Pet Insurance

If you have been looking for pet insurance recently, you may have noticed that there are actually not that many different types of pet insurance available. While pet insurance has become more and more popular over the last couple of years, from being almost unheard of just five years ago, to now being a common insurance policy on the list along with all the other insurance policies, this has not meant that too much diversity has entered the field.

The vast majority of pet insurance policies are available only for either your cat or your dog. While they will offer broadly similar types of protection, dog and cat pet insurance policies will not always be identical. In fact, in some respects they can be very different indeed.

The first major difference between the two types of pet insurance is that insurance for a cat will be a lot cheaper than insurance for a dog. While you would usually be doing pretty well to find cat insurance for about half the price of dog insurance policies, there are some companies that will offer cat insurance at just a fifth of the price of their dog insurance policies. This is a very big difference.

Where the two types of pet insurance will be a bit more similar will be in what they cover. Both types of pet insurance are aimed at covering you against vet bills if your pet is to get ill and you need to take it to the vet. This will generally mean that all the various types of treatment that vets are able to offer these days will be available to you and your pet and you will not have to worry so much about the high prices that many of these sophisticated treatments can end up costing. In fact, the pet insurance companies will usually tell you that you will not have to worry about the cost at all, because you will be completely covered, but it is a good idea to keep an eye on the costs of the treatments that are being recommended to you as most pet insurance policies will have a limit on the amount of treatment that they will pay for.

This is another place where the two types of pet insurance can differ widely. Because dogs tend to be bigger animals and because the treatments available to them are in many cases more advanced, you will probably find that you will have a higher spending limit on the treatment that you can buy for a sick dog over a sick cat. This is also the main reason that dog insurance costs more than cat insurance as well however.

What some companies will offer you with pet insurance, is a percentage discount off the total bill if you insure more than one animal. In many cases this will apply even if you wish to mix the animals between cats and dogs, so if you have a mixture of the two pets you may well be able to get a good discount on your different types of pet insurance.
