USA Travel Insurance

If you are travelling abroad without adequate travel insurance, then you are taking a big risk. One of the most important things you have to remember is that while you are in the UK, you are protected by the NHS, or your own private medical insurance. This means that if the worst happens, and for some reason you end up needing serious medical treatment you are protected. As soon as you step outside of the United Kingdom, this protection is gone. While you are still in the European Union, you will benefit from each state’s nation health service as if you were a citizen of that state, but once you are outside the European Union, you better make sure you are in perfect health, are not doing anything dangerous, or that you have good travel insurance in place.

While most people take the view that exotic third world locations are the most dangerous, the truth of the matter is that you can get injured, or be involved in an accident no matter where you go. The other point to remember is that while you are in poorer countries, while their medical services may not be the top of the line, at least you will have some chance of being able to afford treatment. If you are in a developed country, without travel insurance, you could find yourself selling your house to pay off some foreign hospitals!

This is not an exaggeration, medical costs, for even routine procedures, can cost tens of thousands of pounds, and if you are involved in a car accident or some other tragedy, there will be no opportunity to fly home for the medical treatment you need.

By far, the most expensive country in the world for medical treatment will be the United States. In fact, if you are getting world wide travel insurance, then they will specifically ask do you want to cover the USA as well, because if you are travelling the whole world, excluding the US, it will be cheaper for your travel insurance than if you are going to enter the US even for just a short period of time.

Travel insurance for the US is the most expensive in the world. However, once you have it, you will get excellent treatment, and they will have no problems in arranging with your insurance company for payment. There will in fact be very little paper work involved at all.

Another thing you should think about before travelling to the US is the other benefits of travel insurance. If your flights are delayed, or you miss a flight, and have to make alternative arrangements for travel, or even book yourself accommodation, the level of service you get while in the US will be very good. The whole system is well organised for making insurance claims and you should be fully reimbursed for anything that goes wrong. Contrast this scenario with the situation of someone who does not have travel insurance. The US can be a very harsh and expensive place when you are stuck in a bind. By far the safest course to take is to make sure you have adequate travel insurance when you travel in the USA.
